Airport hotels tend not to be the most interesting places in the world, but in Kuala Lumpur and Tune Hotel in particular they have made this an art form.
I was to end up here (again) due to Air Asia giving me an impossible flight connection. Thankfully it they also provided me with a $30 ticket the next day.
What the KLIA?
Kuala Lumpur International Airport terminals 1 and 2 are equal parts one of the best airports in the word and equal parts a fucking frustrating place.
Negatives here include the weird way in which they do airport security, making it almost and airport within and airport, as well as the distance between terminals.
Most recently they have introduced an e-customs form that is frankly ridiculous and does not work on IOS. Twice I have had to get them to do it for me, as many have to and it essentially made me miss my flight and end up at the Tune Hotel.
What the Tune Hotel Acropolis
Seemingly part of w diet chain, there are at least two that are near the airport. I think they are also in other parts of Malaysia, but it is so boring I will not even research it.
This particular branch of Tune Hotel is just 4km from the airport, or about $7 by Grab. Grab. Is very different in Malaysia and is by far the way to get around. You get your Grab from window 5 at KLIA 2, which is always ram packed with people. – I digress.
At about $40 a night this is the closest “budget” hotel to both terminals. There are in fact hotels and pods within the airport but they go fro $100-200. Sadly this means that while Tune will save you money, driving here and checking in really take a bite into your sleep time.
Facilities and rooms at Tune Hotel
There is a restaurant, as well as breakfast here although with the nature of such a hotel I have never been here at the right time. There is no shop to speak of and it is all about the rooms. I have though previously explored the area and found a Family Mart, but it is quite the trek.
The rooms here are small for one person, let alone two, which is very cramped and not really that viable. Alas though you come here for a cheap quick sleep, not parting and street food.
