Taxi Soft Drinks: Samoa’s Local Soda Hero

Taxi Soft Drink

When it comes to soft drinks in Samoa, Taxi Soft Drinks is the name that stands out. This homegrown brand, established in 1955 by the Apia Bottling Company, has been a cornerstone of Samoan refreshment for decades.

And it is bloody popular making Samoa, much like Papua New Guinea and Gold Spot a self sustain nation when it comes to fizzy pop.

The History Behind Taxi Soft Drinks

Taxi Soft Drinks was created to offer an affordable, locally-made soda for Samoans. Over the years, it has become more than just a drink—it’s a symbol of local pride.

The name “Taxi” reflects the bustling, vibrant energy of Samoa, much like the taxis weaving through the streets of Apia.

Flavors That Define the Brand

The brand offers a range of classic flavors, including Cola, Lemonade, and Orange, but the standout has always been Pineapple.

This tropical flavor captures the essence of Samoa with its sweet and tangy taste, perfect for the island’s warm climate. These flavors are simple yet satisfying, resonating with locals who value authenticity over complexity.

Why Taxi Soft Drinks Matter

In a market dominated by international giants like Coca-Cola and Pepsi, Taxi Soft Drinks remains a proudly local option. It’s not just about the soda—it’s about supporting a brand that represents Samoan culture and tradition. Taxi drinks are found everywhere, from corner stores to family gatherings, making them a staple in daily life.

#ColaQuest

So, how does Taxi Cola rank when it comes to Cola Quest? Well firstly they do really well from a marketing point of view with the drink being just about everywhere. In fact in many restaurants they have taxi, but no real Coke. And thankfully they have (not yet at least) sold out to Coca Cola.

And the product itself? Sadly Taxi Soft Drink Cola tastes like store brand coke from the 90’s rather than greats such as Est, or Ize. So while not awful I can only give it a 5/10 on Cola Quest.

This also means that it sadly does not mix all that well with liquor either, with us testing this out with vodka.

Final Sip

And the best thing about Taxi Soft Drinks? Well they really are uniquely Samoan and indeed heavily popular within the country. For me this is great as you have to admire when a company sticks it to the corporate man.
