Having found myself back in the seaside town of Hua His, Thailand I have thus once again needed to find places to eat and drink. This is what led me to what can only be described as the rather strange Sweden Restaurant.
Why the Sweden Restaurant? Well the menu looked good and who does not love Swedish meatballs like you get at Ikea.
Where is the Sweden Restaurant?
Quite literally opposite the City Beach Hotel and on the main broad that leads you down to the Walking Street fun of the bars with friendly (old) ladies looking to find gentlemen – overall, good location related to “stuff”.

Food at the Sweden Restaurant
I kind of get the impression that genuine Swedish cuisine could not fill a whole menu and be popular, particularly in Thailand, so what you actually get here is a strange mixture, of western, Swedish and Thai cuisine.
Mots of our group went for bog standard Thai dishes, but I felt the need to go “native” with some Swedish tucker. This meant a big plate of meatballs on gravy, which were pretty good and the perfect rest from Thai food.
There cocktails were also fairly top notch, with us taking in more than a few Bloody Mary’s and Mai Tai’s.
The overall Swedish Restaurant vibe?
While there is nothing earthshateringly stupendous about the Swedish Restaurant Hua Hin, the decent selection, quality of food, service and location make it a perfect stop off before you sample the nightlife of Hua Hin.
And for nightlife we recommend going to the Kokomo, get there fast and then take it slow….
