When it comes to hotels in Pohnpei there really is not that much up for grabs, at least online. This makes the Ocean View Hotel one of the best choices, if nothing else by default.
What the Pohnpei?
Pohnpei is the capital of the Federated States of Micronesia and home to its national government, including the parliament. It has the main international airport connecting Micronesia to nearby countries.
The island’s population is around 36,000, mostly centered in the town of Kolonia. Pohnpei is a hub for regional travel, administration, and culture in Micronesia. It serves as a key point for flights to Guam and the surrounding islands, making it a central spot in this Pacific nation.
There are a few cool things. To do here, such as Nan Modal, but generally speaking so few people visit here that it is very much one of the Least Visited Countries in the world.
Hotels of Pohnpei
Online you will pretty much find three places to stay here. These are the China Star which is next to the airport and very simple, Yvonnes is another option if you like being ripped off and like rude staff.
And then there is Ocean View Hotel which thus stands firm as the only reliable option. Sadly though because it is good the rooms fill out fast.
Ocean View Hotel Pohnpei
The rooms here are simple and you could say it is no Palacia. They are though clean enough and OK value at around $110 a god. Yes this is expensive, but not for the region.
The stand out part here though is the restaurants which is arguably one of the best international menus in pretty much the whole country. Again though it is not cheap with a steak setting you back at Ocean View almost $40.
I personally had the $10 sashimi which was “Bombay Style” which meant spicy. You truly cannot go wring with raw tuna in these parts.
Oh and they have an Ocean View!
