Is 7-Eleven Xian any good?

7-Eleven Xian

Us 7-Eleven Xian any good? Well I will just get straight to the point and say that 6-Eleven Xian is bloody awesome! I will though of course back this up.

What the 7-Eleven?

I am not going to give the full 7-Eleven story, but I will say that it is huge in Asia and often times a life saver. It is though I am sad to say often times very different country by country. This means that some are not all that great.

On the good list are Hong Kong and Thailand in particular with Beijing also giving good showing. Cambodia is not that great save for Kampot while Korea and to an extent Macao let me down. I am currently very excited to do 7-11 Japan on my next tour.

What the Xian?

OK I will keep this super brief but Xian is the historical and cultural capital of China. It is also where I started YPT and indeed have lived on off for almost 20 years.

In my old life I was an English teacher.

7-Eleven Xian

So, 7-Eleven Xian seems to be mostly an inner city thing with them being located within the city walls. This is also where you will find all of the best street food of Xian.

The one that particularly grabbed me was on the road from the road from the Bell Tower to the South Gate. This is also near to Muslim Street another street food heaven.

This is a fully stocked 7-11 with great booze, food, as well as weird shit!

7-Eleven Xian food

The goat food counter is full and eclectic feating lots of BBQ type dishes of all the available meats. I have personally had the chicken balls in BBQ sauce of late which were excellent. They also have the same potato thing that I have had in Shenzhen. This was better.

But, how about the 6-Eleven Sandwiches? Well these truly are the bellwether for if a 7-11 is any good. I have to say decent selection that was far better than Shenzhen, Macao, or even Thailand. It is though no Hong Kong.

And the drink selection at 7-Eleven Xian

Even more important than sandwiches particularly if you are in China. Yes they have the flavored bai jiu, but also they have Soju. My only problem here is that they rarely have original flavor.

They do though have bottles of vodka of varying sizes. Honestly unless you know what bai jiu is like you may not appreciate just how good this is.

And they have weird childlike squeeze drinks that look like they are healthy, but are for all intents Sunny-D 10% vodka drinks. These are weird and indeed awesome enough in the same breath.

Honestly I have only seen booze done better at 7-Eleven in Saigon, what with their gift baskets with Jager (among other things) in them. Vietnam is another “good” one on the list.

And the weird shit?

Well I have already explained about the sachets of vodka, but they also go heavy on the weird candies. These include all the usual Chinese crap, but also a whole heap of other stuff.

They also have a lot of random toys, stuff I just didn’t understand and quite frankly the savior of my day, and maybe tomorrow’s day – socks.

Such a simple thing to have on your sales list, but oh so helpful for the weary traveler. And lastly the service at 7-Eleven Xian was friendly and to the point with the wee fella even speaking a little English. All the things I needed for my Monday night in…
