The Blue Lagoon Resort in Chuuk is as much a gateway as it is a destination. Located on Weno Island, this hotel boasts an unbeatable view of the famous Truk Lagoon, home to some of the world’s best dive sites.
The setting feels tropical yet slightly aged—a throwback to the days when explorers would make this their pit stop and thus the perfect stop on the Least Visited Countries Tour.
What the Chuuk?
Chuuk, one of the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia, is best known for its spectacular lagoon—a global diving hotspot filled with WWII shipwrecks. Located in the Pacific Ocean, this island group offers a mix of stunning natural beauty and a slower pace of life.
Weno, the largest island, serves as the administrative center, but the vibe remains distinctly laid-back. While the diving community thrives, infrastructure is minimal, and entertainment options are limited, making it ideal for adventurers and history buffs seeking underwater exploration or a glimpse of traditional island culture.
Oh and the roads here are shit, like really really shit…

Rooms at the Blue Lagoon
The rooms are simple, clean, and equipped with the essentials—air conditioning, private balconies, and Wi-Fi, which is reliable by Chuuk standards. While it’s not luxury, it doesn’t need to be. Divers are here for the lagoon, not for flat-screen TVs or plush linens.
Diving at the Blue Lagoon
The real highlight is the hotel’s dive shop. This is your ticket to the underwater treasure trove of WWII shipwrecks, coral reefs, and marine life.
The staff is well-versed in organizing trips and making even beginners feel confident in tackling these epic sites. And if diving isn’t your thing? You might find yourself a little bored—this place thrives on lagoon tourism.

Eating at the Blue Lagoon
The menus here is simple and fairly well American influenced, but with a local and Filipino flare. This is particularly evident at breakfast when one can have a standard American, a local, or a “Blue Lagoon”, the later two having garlic rice with corned beef, or spam. I have only been in the Pacific less than a week and I am already (almost spammed out).
Dinner is a bit more adventurous with $35 steaks, but also sashimi. For whatever reason there was not any tune, but the rainbow fish more than did the magic for me.
Which leads us to the bar, which had happy hour cocktails by the lagoon for $7. Again this might not sound all that cheap, but we are dealing with economies of scale here. The setting here is decent and while I prefer Truk Stop is enough to entertain you at the end of a night.
